Are dental implants permanent?

Dr. Mark H. Wright of Colorado Springs, Colorado, understands that there are times when teeth are extracted or lost. This permanent loss of a tooth needs to be addressed as soon as possible to avoid the shifting of the remaining teeth and other complications such as bone loss.

You may have many questions if you are faced with recent tooth loss and are advised that dental implants might be right for you. At Mark H Wright DDS, we welcome you to ask questions about this and other tooth replacement options.

Are dental implants a permanent solution?

Dental implants are considered a more permanent alternative to restorations like dental bridges. However, this doesn’t mean patients can’t lose them with time. When bone loss occurs, it affects the foundation of dental implants and causes them to become loose or lost. We encourage patients to be vigilant about visiting Dr. Mark H. Wright for routine cleanings and evaluations to monitor the health and function of dental implants to ensure longevity and functionality.

Is the placement of dental implants painful?

When patients are scheduled for their oral surgery for the placement of dental implants, they are properly anesthetized and sedated to ensure they are comfortable from start to finish. We offer oral sedation to put patients at ease and make their experience as positive as possible. We also educate patients on caring for their smile after dental implant placement to reduce the risk of complications and discomfort.

What are the benefits of dental implants?

Patients choose dental implants for many reasons, but most often, they are selected by those looking for a permanent, reliable, and long-lasting way of replacing one or more teeth. These restorations are versatile, replacing one, several, or all teeth. Dental implants also maintain bone structure, which other alternative treatments cannot. This eliminates the sunken appearance that can occur to the jaw and chin area after bone loss gradually happens.
