At Mark H Wright DDS, Dr. Mark Wright does more than just help patients in the Colorado Springs, Colorado area with their oral health concerns, including cavities and disease. He also provides solutions to help with other issues that can arise, such as temporomandibular joint disorder, sometimes referred to by its acronym, TMD. This is a condition in which the jaw joint that connects the upper and lower jaw becomes problematic, resulting in popping, locking, and pain around the temporomandibular joint. Our team is here to help patients with pain relief options, including Botox injections.
When our patients think of the product “Botox,” they often link it with cosmetic treatments used to turn back the signs of aging on the face. But Botox has many other uses. It is injected into the muscles to reduce muscle contractions, making it a reliable treatment for various medical conditions, including cervical dystonia, overactive bladder, and even excessive sweating. When used for TMJ/TMD, it is injected into the muscles surrounding the jaw joint to alleviate pain and discomfort associated with this oral condition. This addresses discomfort that might otherwise only be relieved with over-the-counter pain medications.
Our patients find that Botox injections performed for the treatment of TMJ/TMD will often provide results for several months before reinjection is required. Our patients often come in for injections during their routine cleanings and examinations, though more visits may be necessary depending on the length of time the treatment works for the patient. Each patient is different, so it can be difficult to provide an accurate time estimate until our team sees how the body reacts to the Botox and how long patients enjoy relief.
Dr. Mark H. Wright and his dedicated team of professionals work with patients seeking solutions for their dental conditions and can educate patients on their options for addressing TMJ/TMD pain relief.
